Free Games:

My next favorite thing to do with an RGH is expand my collection of games. No, I don't mean go out and buy discs from GameStop or even go out and buy those silly Memorex discs to burn those disc images onto, I mean download the .ISO and extract it's contents to my external hard drive. Yes, it is what you think..free games! This has many applications besides the use of illegally downloading games off the internet. Some games get leaked early (not trying to say which games.. but *cough* over done, repetitive franchise *cough*). You can download these and play them before anyone else has access to do so and even use LiNK which I will explain further down the page. You can also go to RedBox, rent a game, and rip it to your hard drive and have that game forever! Since outside of premium I'm not allowed to link you to .ISOs or the sites to download them, I'll just give you a typical search term used to search for an .ISO from the internet.

Emulators and ROMs:

To get us started, I'm going to speak about Emulators. Emulators are used to, emulate for lack of a better word (since that's exactly what they do), the games they're designed for. The modding community has ported over some of the best emulators you can find on the PC over to the Xbox. There are a vast majority of such things that can be found on a website which I won't link you to directly because I believe emulators are considered "warez", but I'll push you in the right direction .

You'll also need "ROMs" which are the files from the game cartridges that have been extracted to the computer. I'm still now allowed to link these so I'll give you the names of some good websites.

Homebrew:

Homebrew is software that Microsoft doesn't allow to run on retail xbox360s. The reason we use homebrew software is because of the potential our exploited consoles carry. The homebrew software unlocks a lot of these features, such as displaying console temperatures, allowing us to browse our hard drive like never before, giving us alternative dashboards, unlocking free DLC, etc. These features define the RGH. Without homebrew, we wouldn't really have an exploited console... we'd have an Xbox360 that has wires and a chip inside it. It wouldn't even boot because we wouldn't have Xell to extract our CPUkey to build the NAND (I won't dip to far into the technicalities of RGHing an Xbox). This software is what differentiates Us from Them. ("Us" being the modding community, and "Them" being the retail community).

DashLaunch:

Touching in on DashLaunch.. Dashlaunch is a homebrew application that allows you to customize specific settings on your exploited console (such as Plugins, FTP capabilities, LiveBlock, FakeLive, etc). This is essential to your system if you want to mod or mess around with games. Not much else I can say here.. I'll mention some notable plugins.

XboxNeighborhood/Xbox360 SDK:

Something that needs mentioning is XboxNeighborhood. This is the program used on your PC that connects it to your exploited console. This program is also known as the Xbox360 SDK (Xbox 360 source development kit). It's used by adding a plugin to DashLaunch's "launch.ini" so your computer can communicate with your Xbox. You can browse through the memory devices, launch .xexs, and delete or add files to a storage unit. It's very similar to an FTP client that includes a GUI.
